Formatting Rules
Define AI-powered rules that control how Glaido formats your transcriptions.
Formatting rules are AI instructions that modify how Glaido processes your transcriptions. They let you define a personal writing style that Glaido applies automatically every time you dictate.
How rules work
After Glaido transcribes your speech, it passes the text through an AI formatting step. Your rules are included as instructions to the AI, which adjusts the text accordingly before pasting.
Example rules:

| British English | Use British English spelling (colour, organise, etc.) |
| Concise | Keep sentences short and concise, remove unnecessary words |
| Lowercase only | Always write in lowercase, with no capital letters |
Creating a rule
Open Personalization
Navigate to Personalization from the sidebar, or press ⌘ + K (macOS) / Ctrl + K (Windows) and type "Add personalization rule".
Add a rule
Click Add rule.
Define the rule
Give the rule a short title for your own reference, then write the description. This is the actual instruction the AI follows, so write it as a clear, specific directive. The more specific you are, the better the AI follows it.
Save
Click Save. The rule is applied to all future transcriptions.
Limits
You can have up to 8 active formatting rules at a time. All active rules are applied together during transcription.
Preset suggestions
When you first open the Personalization page, Glaido offers preset rule suggestions to get you started. These cover common formatting preferences and can be customized after adding.
Tips for effective rules
- Be specific. "Write in present tense" is clearer than "make it sound better".
- Don't conflict. Avoid rules that contradict each other (e.g., "be verbose" and "be concise").
- Test and iterate. Try a rule, dictate a few sentences, and refine the wording if needed.
- Combine rules. Use multiple focused rules rather than one long, complex rule.

Editing a rule
Click on any rule to edit its title or instruction.
Deleting a rule
Hover over a rule and click the delete button to remove it.
