Check your microphone

A modern laptop's built-in microphone is fine for dictation in a quiet room. If you're not sure how yours sounds, record a short dictation and listen back to the audio before relying on it for real work.

Glaido filters noise on its own, but a quieter room still transcribes better. Close a window, mute a speaker, or move somewhere quieter. See Microphone for auto-detect and Bluetooth behavior.

Speak at your normal pace. Slowing down or over-enunciating doesn't help.

Use the Dictionary sparingly

The Dictionary is for words Glaido consistently gets wrong, not every word you can think of. If a term only trips up transcription occasionally, leave it alone. Glaido's AI formatting layer resolves a lot of ambiguity on its own, and it will often get the word right without any help.

Add an entry once a word keeps coming out wrong the same way, like a name or a product term. A spelling correction catches it every time. Prune entries you no longer need.

Keep formatting rules focused

Formatting rules come in two layers. The All apps style is the one every dictation gets, everywhere. Each custom rule you add applies only in the apps and websites you give it, so it leaves everything else alone. Put your general preference in the All apps style, and add a custom rule only for an app that needs something different.

There's no limit on how many rules you add. Each custom prompt caps at 500 characters, and shorter works better. One specific instruction shapes output more predictably than a paragraph of style notes.

Add one rule at a time. Dictate a few sentences in one of its apps and check the result before you add another.

Combine dictation with commands

Dictation writes text. Commands edit it. Select text, hold the commands hotkey, and say what to do with it, like "shorten this email" or "translate this to German".

Start small. Select one sentence and say "make this more formal".
